Another win for Jonnier!- Thursday 02 July, 2009

Just a quick mention that Sabrina Jonnier won her fourth straight UCI World Cup downhill race in Maribor, Slovenia a few weeks back. We'd like to think the light ZTR Flow wheelset she is running had something to do with winning this round by .31 seconds over Emmeline Ragot.
Sabrina now holds a 307 point lead in the overall heading in to Mt St Anne and Bromont.

Of course the year the weather looks good we are not attending Sea Otter but the good news is you can still check out some of our products if you are making the trip.
Take a look at the Ventana booth to see the ZTR Flow 26" rims in white with ZTR hubs. When you're done there swing by The Hive's booth and look for Chub hubs with some of our 29er hoops. Along those 29 lines, Niner Bikes will have a couple sets of wheels on hand. Finally, keep your eyes peeled for a Commencal wearing white ZTR 355 rims with ZTR hubs and a Voodoo with some Arch 29ers in white.
We currently have the Arch 29er and Olympic 26" rims available with the white powder coat finish and expect to have the 355 and Flow 26" as well as the 355 29ers very shortly. White Arch 26" and Flow 29" rims will be along a little later this year.

3 big wins, 24 HOP- Monday 16 February, 2009

What a weekend! Todd and his crew over at Epic Rides have managed to put together one of the best events in the country and it brings out a stacked field. We\'re proud to have helped sponsor the event for the last few years and provided sample bottles of sealant to all participants.
NoTubes has had success at this race in the past with the superior flat protection against the cholla. However, this year NoTubes riders grabbed some wins and podium spots.
Evan Plews took on his first 24 hour race and in doing so, won the solo male geared category with 18 laps (about 288 miles and 21,600 ft of climbing. Evan ran our new ZTR hubs front and rear with a Raven on the front and a Crow out back with sealant inside of course. More information coming soon on the hubs but suffice it to say they're pretty light, reliable, and plenty fast for a 24 hour race in the desert.
In the solo female geared category, Sarah Kaufmann brought home the top spot with 15 laps. We set Sarah up with the 7000 series Race wheels this year to keep it light for long days in the saddle. This should be the first of many podium spots for the year.
Also in the solo female geared, Mary Metcalf snagged third place as she gets tuned up for the season. She's running the Race 29 wheels that will soon be available for all.
Last but certainly not least, Dejay Birtch won the solo male single speed on some Race 29 wheels as well. Dejay had this to say about his new wheels "The set-up made for turning the wheel over and over again-times a few 100 thousand a key to the victory."
Congratulations to all that raced. More info and links to come, just wanted to get a quick word out there. |

NoTubes.com Files Lawsuit against Specialized Bicycle Components Inc.
BIG FLATS, N.Y. – Nov 12, 2008 - On September 15, 2008, NoTubes.com® filed a lawsuit against Specialized Bicycle Components Inc. (“Specialized”) alleging that certain rims and wheels of Specialized infringe U.S. Patent No. 7,334,846 (the “‘846 patent”). This lawsuit, styled K.G. Motors, Inc. v. Specialized Bicycle Components, Inc., is currently pending in the United States District Court for the Western District of New York.
As set forth in NoTubes’s complaint, Specialized is alleged to infringe the ‘846 patent by making, using, selling, offering for sale, and/or importing into the United States certain tubeless wheels and rims, including without limitation Specialized’s Roval brand wheels. The technology disclosed and claimed in the ‘846 patent was invented by NoTubes’s founder and owner, Stan Koziatek, while pursuing a better solution for tubeless bicycle wheels and rims.

Other notable finishes were Mary McConneloug finishing 7th on her Race 7000 wheels, just ahead of fellow American Georgia Gould.
The men's race was dominated by French and Swiss riders but we'd like to recognize Oli Beckingsale (Great Britain) finishing 12th on the ZTR Race 7000 wheels while competing in his third Olympics. |

For those keeping score at home that means in the Pro Men's XC category NoTubes wheels have been in the top spot four of five times. The lone miss was a 2nd place by Geoff Kabush.
The US National Championships are this weekend and we look forward to watching, among other things, longtime NoTubes racer Mary McConneloug defend her National Championship jerseys in both the XC and Short Track events as she tunes up for the Olympics. Kabush 3rd at Andorra World Cup- Tuesday 03 June, 2008

Geoff Kabush continued his strong season by finishing 3rd at the recent Andorra World Cup XC event. He was running his ZTR Race 7000 wheels tubeless of course and was only 18 seconds back of the winner. For good measure, there were 3 sets of the 7000 series Race wheels in the top 6 of the men's race.
GT riders Burry Stander (2nd place) and Todd Wells (6th place) put our sealant to good use with some of their best results in World Cup competition to date.
In the women's XC event Mary McConneloug was the top US woman (14th) also on 7000 series Race wheels and sealant. Marie-Helene Premont (Rocky Mountain, 3rd) was once again running our sealant and word from her mechanic is that she has had punctures in both of the previous World Cups that were sealed on the fly. Those sealed punctures have helped her climb into 3rd in the overall.
Last but not least, Sabrina Jonnier rode to an impressive 2nd in the women's DH event on her Flow rims. Sabrina is currently 1st overall in the standings with Ft. William on tap this weekend for all disciplines. |

Road tubeless feedback- Monday 17 December, 2007
|
Viewed:3152 |
 |
Some user feedback on the road tubeless conversions is starting to come in so we're just spreading the word.
This from Lee in Texas:
"Hello Stan,
We talked late summer about using the tubeless products on carbon road rims. I wanted to give you feedback as to what I experienced. Using the full 2oz definitely is the route to go. With my Spinergy Stealth FCT carbon wheel set, I initially had to top off again after sitting overnight. After that it seemed all the little carbon imperfections had sealed and things are great! I installed tires on my Campy Hyperons Ultras (carbon clincher) They sealed up right away and no issues. Installing the tires were no more difficult than installing a regular clincher tire really.
Both sets of wheels hold pressure just fine. I haven’t experience any burping and I’ve definitely hit my share of pot holes. I run about 75 psi in the front 80 psi in the rear. Great system, they run better than any of my fancy sew-ups!! In fact I have a few other wheel sets which I plan to set up.
Thanks again!!"

A successful trip west for the NoTubes crew. Had the opportunity to meet some great people and take in the well organized efforts of the Epic Rides folks.
Tinker Juarez won the solo male category again riding on his special NoTubes built race wheels. Tinker also turned the fastest solo male laps during the day and night.
Mary Collier (sirenbicycles.com) took third in the solo female category riding some ZTR 355 rims and her teammate Todd Carpenter took 5th in the solo male also on ZTR 355 rims.
In the 4 person single speed category, "No Shift Sherlock" featuring NoTubes racers Dejay Birtch and Jake Kirkpatrick finished just a few minutes back in second place but it came right down to the last lap. Team racing doesn't get much better than that.
Dejay turned the fastest night single speed lap as well.

If you haven't had the time to click through our custom wheel configurations yet, you probably haven't noticed that we now offer Hope hubs as well as colored nipple options.
Hope Pro II Disc: One of the best all around hubs available. Not the lightest but not as heavy as King, Hadley, etcetera but with all of the quality.Hub shells are machined from 2014-T6 aluminum and anodized in one of six colors (Black, Silver, Red, Blue, Gold, and Gunsmoke). The rear hub features five sealed cartridge bearings and a four pawl system engaging into a 24 point steel ratchet.
The front hubs are stocked in the quick release version but can be converted to 20mm thru axle and 24mm Maverick in just a few minutes using the convenient adapter kits.
Backed by an amazing five year warranty, the Hope Pro II is our pick for the rider that requires durability without a big weight gain and maybe wants to add a little color to their lives.
Nipple color options include silver, black, red, blue, and gold.

New rim designs, giveaway contest starts today!- Friday 27 October, 2006
|

Just wanted to pass along the word on some exciting new products that will be coming on strong for 2007. Following our rim design principles of tubeless compatibility and maximizing the strength to weight ratio, two new models will be released in both 26” and 29” versions. Based on our in-house testing for lateral stiffness against other rim designs, the ZTR Flow and ZTR Arch are easily going to be the leaders in their respective categories.
Check out the ZTR Flow and ZTR Arch pages for more info. Rims should be arriving in early 2007.
Now on to the contest.
We decided it had been too long since we had a contest here at NoTubes so with the new rims coming out, now is the time. From now through December 31st, complete this little quiz and submit your answers. If you answer all 10 questions correctly, your name will be entered in a random drawing to win one of three prize packages.
1st Prize - A custom wheelset built on either the new ZTR Flow or ZTR Arch rims in 26 or 29" (your choice) using any of the hubs we have in stock, a NoTubes T-shirt, and a pair of NoTubes cycling socks.
2nd Prize - One pair of ZTR Flow or ZTR Arch rims (your choice), a NoTubes T-shirt, and a pair of NoTubes cycling socks.
3rd Prize - One tubeless conversion kit of your choice, a NoTubes T-shirt, and a pair of NoTubes cycling socks.
Limit one entry per person, multiple entries will be discarded. You must answer all ten questions correctly to receive an entry in the contest. Winners will be contacted by e-mail so please make sure you have entered your address correctly. Open to participants worldwide. NoTubes will cover all shipping costs.
Employees of NoTubes.com are not eligible and I know all seven of you so don't think you'll sneak by. |

McConneloug wins Pan American Championship- Wednesday 25 October, 2006
|

Two of our racers, Mary McConneloug and Mike Broderick recently made the trip to Brazil to compete in the Pan American Championship and defend Mary's title. We are happy to report that she was successful in the blistering heat on a tough course.
Mike put in a strong effort to finish 10th after going in to conservation made from the incredibly fast starting pace.
Mike's comments of the course:
"The race course was really difficult, a short 4.5 km mix of single and double torn into a lush rain forest on the side of an incredibly steep hill. The soil was a mix of clay and sand that was unrideable during our wet training days. lucky for us on race day the course dried to a ride able bumpy blue grove. The wicked climbing and tropical heat were definitely the major challenging features. This was the first time all year that I put the granny ring back on my bike, and I was glad that I did!"
The US made a strong showing and we are very happy for Mike and Mary with the amazing effort in tough conditions. ZTR wheels on the podium again! |

Winner of the Cascade Creampuff 100 on NoTubes- Thursday 20 July, 2006
|

Well the results from the 2006 Cascade Creampuff 100 have been posted and I'm proud to say that Ben Thompson took the victory on his NoTubes gear.
Ben's teammate, Evan Plews, dropped me this info in a recent e-mail:
"Ben Thompson won the Cascade Creampuff 100 mile mountain bike race last weekend. This has been regarded as the hardest 100 mile MTB race in the country. Ben withstood the 100F conditions and 18K feet of climbing to beat multiple winner and course record holder Erik Tonkin (Kona/S&M)! All of this was made possible using NoTubes ZTR rims, yellow tape, and sealant."
Full results are available here. |
