FAQ FAQ / Troubleshooting
Be sure you follow all instructions very carefully, each step is essential!

"Why use our rim strip on tubeless rims?"

  • Without our rim strips, mounting a standard tire on a tubeless rim creates a poor interface, making it easier to burp air. Using our new rim strips in tubeless rims creates a much stronger interface with the tire and rim. The interfacing is so strong there is No Air Loss even when a C-clamp has the tire totally compressed. The side walls are touching and the bead lock is completely exposed! Try this with your tubeless system.
  • Our rim strips create an inner seal and allow you to run lower air pressures without burping air. They will also make inflating a standard tire as easy as or easier than your tubeless tires. Our rim strips have a removable valve core which allows you to add sealant without removing the tire. You will find that this rim strip has the ability to vastly improve your tubeless system and they only weigh about 55g each.
  • These rim strips are designed for use in both UST and Bontrager tubeless rims when using standard tires.
  • We do not recommend using our Rim Strip with Tubeless Tires.
  • With the Mavic UST rim, installing is simple, remove your valve stem and stretch the rim strip into the rim cavity.

"Can I Ad Sealant to my UST Wheel set?"

If you are satisfied with the holding power of your tubeless rim, we now offer a new tubeless valve stem that features a removable core and works with both standard and tubeless tires. This will allow you to quickly and easily add sealant in tubeless rims without removing your tire. Note this valve stem can only be used in Mavic UST and Bontrager tubeless rims.

"My tire will not inflate on the rim, what now?"
There are many factors involved with inflating. First, the sealant has nothing to do with inflating the tire. If you are having problems inflating do not use the sealant until you can successfully inflate the tire on the rim. Next, make sure you are using soap and water, this is very important. The soap and water solution lubricates and provides thicker viscosity. This will trap the air and help the tire pop onto the bead, resulting in easier inflation. Also, make sure the Rim Strip is stretched evenly around the rim with no narrow spots. If you have done all of the above, remove the valve core from the valve stem and try inflating without the core. This will allow more air volume to go into the tire. Some tires are more difficult to inflate than others. For example, some tires fit looser causing more air to escape. To help the tire pop onto the bead, slap the top side of the tire where the air seems to be escaping (see animation on Instructions), typically around the valve stem. This will help pop the tire onto the bead and make inflating easier. We recommend watching the video on the website which will provide in-depth instructions and visual aids to help you successfully use our system. For some rim specific instructions check our Tech Sheets and 'Selecting the Proper Rim Strip' located in the Tech Section on the website. Installation CD's are also available on the website

"The next day the tire was flat or very low on air pressure, what do I do?"
This is caused by the slow leaks mentioned in Step 6(Instructions). Re-inflate to 35psi and re-do the sealing process in Step 6.

"My valve core is loose or fell out, what do I do?"
If your valve core is loose all you have to do is finger tighten it and then use a pair of pliers to tighten 1/2 - 3/4 of a turn more. If you have lost your valve core or need to replace one, you will have to
order a replacement.

"How long will the sealant last in my tire?"
The sealant should last anywhere from 2-6 months or longer. However, there are many factors: depending on temperatures of your area, weather conditions, how often you ride, where you store your bike (cooler is better), etc.. One quart will seal approximately 16 Tires and one pint will seal approximately 8 tires.

"Will Stan's Tire and Rim Sealant work for Tubeless tire applications?"
Yes, put in 1 scoop and enjoy the puncture resistance while avoiding the hassles of re-inflating leaky Tubeless tires!
