Spokes and Spoke Nipples: You will need to lubricate your spoke nipples to aid in the truing process. The rim does not use eyelets, saving 10g. We use synthetic 0 weight oil but any light oil will work.
Spoke Tape: (If you purchased our wheel set, yellow tape is pre-installed)
Use thin spoke tape for protection over your spoke holes. Any thin tape like our nylon spoke tape, yellow spoke tape, ROX Ultra Light, etc will work. Our special Yellow spoke tape and nylon spoke tape can be purchased on our website. If you use any type of thick spoke tape, the tire will mount much harder. The Yellow spoke tape is required if you want to use just the valve stem for a tubeless application.
Flow & Freeride Spoke Tape: The Flow rims and the Freeride rim require wider Yellow tape for tubeless use. The Flow uses 25mm tape and the Freeride, 32mm tape. All other rim models use our 21mm wide Yellow tape.
Installing Rim Strip: Make sure the rim strip is stretched equally all around the rim. If not, the rim strip will be too narrow in some spots creating possible leaks.
All ZTR rim models: These rims trap air so well that most riders use our thin Yellow spoke tape with the Olympic valve stem. You also have the option to use a rubber rim strip. It is not necessary to enlarge the inner valve stem hole to 3/8 inch to use the rubber strip, however, enlarging it will allow the valve stem to sit flat making inflating with a floor pump easier. Keep in mind, if you enlarge the hole you will not be able to use the Olympic valve stem with the Yellow spoke tape. We recommend not drilling the hole out so you can use the valve.
Rims used for rim brakes: If using fully anodized versions of the 355 and Arch rims for rim brakes they may squeal and require you to toe out your brake pads to stop the squeal. No special pads are needed. The 355 ABT model does not require brake pad adjustment.
All 29’er Rims: Do not over tension the spokes, if over tensioned the wheel will not stay true. Check the chart above for correct tensions.
We recommend wire bead tires or our own Crow folding bead tire because many 29er tires will stretch the beads when inflated tubeless. When mounting a tire tubeless do not inflate over 40psi.
- You must use soap and water for lubrication on all tires during inflation!
