Stan's NoTubes: ¿Cuánto tiempo ha estado en el negocio y en su ubicación actual?
Mark Serna: ¡Cerca de 11 años y ahora más fuerte que nunca!
SNT: ¿Cómo llegó al negocio del ciclismo?
MS: De hecho, comenzó como un pasatiempo, un ejercicio regular y mucha diversión de la buena. He montado en bicicleta toda mi vida, pero no fue hasta que hubo un cambio en mi situación de vida, que vi la oportunidad de transformar mi pasión por las bicicletas en un negocio en auge.
SNT: ¿A cuántas personas emplea actualmente?
MS: Tenemos tres vendedores al frente atendiendo a los clientes, las redes sociales y las líneas telefónicas. Después, tres técnicos que manejan dos tiendas separadas, una persona de logística para todas las cosas que tenemos que enviar y una contadora (Realmente apreciamos a esa señora).
SNT: Cuéntenos más sobre su negocio, ¿en qué segmentos del mercado se enfocan más: Ruta, montaña, urbano, otros?
MS: Realmente comenzamos enfocados al 100% en bicicletas de MTB, pero la demanda del mercado nos mostró que era necesario incluir bicicletas de ruta, bicicletas urbanas y todo tipo de bicicletas en nuestra estructura comercial. Como una de las tiendas líderes en nuestra ciudad, ¡tenemos que poder atender a todos!
SNT: ¿Cuánto tiempo lleva ofreciendo ruedas y productos Stan’s NoTubes en su tienda?
MS: En esencia, desde el principio. El sellador Stan’s ha sido el producto primordial para nuestras instalaciones tubeless y para cualquier persona a la que no le guste ponchar. Y bueno, literalmente, no conocemos a nadie a quien le guste ponchar o que le guste detenerse en medio de la nada a cambiar una cámara picada. Incorporamos las ruedas, cintas, válvulas, inyectores y muchos más artículos a medida que nuestra tienda crecía.
SNT: ¿Qué hace que su tienda se destaque?
MS: ¡Somos personas totalmente increíbles! Nos gustan las chelas y las bicicletas, y todo lo relacionado con las bicicletas. ESO y un servicio al cliente amigable y siempre con una sonrisa. Montones y montones de piezas y accesorios increíbles para bicicletas, servicio altamente personalizado, técnicos altamente capacitados; De hecho, somos el único centro de servicio certificado de Fox Racing Shox en el norte de México, por lo que eso nos brinda mucha atención de los ciclistas de MTB e incluso de otras tiendas en todo el país que buscan un servicio profesional para sus suspensiones de alta gama. SNT: ¿Son populares las bicicletas eléctricas en su área?
MS: ¿Bromeas? ¡CLARO QUE SI! No la vimos venir. Ha sido un gran aumento. Ojalá hubiera invertido más en bicicletas eléctricas. Dicho esto, creo que la tecnología aún se encuentra en sus primeras etapas y aún hay muchas mejoras por hacer por parte de las grandes marcas (¡no mencionaremos nombres!).
SNT: ¿Qué tipo de rodadas o qué tipo de bicicleta es más popular en su área?
MS: Vivimos en un lugar que es apodado "la ciudad de las montañas". No hace falta decir más…
SNT: ¿Ha notado un aumento en las ventas en su área durante la pandemia global COVID-19?
MS: Bastante. Nuestra tienda física y nuestro negocio en línea se dispararon en más de un 100% o incluso más. Simplemente no podemos conseguir suficiente producto con la suficiente rapidez.
SNT: ¿Cuáles son las ruedas de Stan más populares en su área y por qué?
MS: Los juegos de ruedas MTB principalmente, como el ZTR Crest Mk3, los modelos Arch MK3 y Flow (tanto MK3 como EX3). En sí, ofrecemos la línea completa de aros y ruedas Stan’s que nos facilita nuestro importador nacional (@xichu.mx).
SNT: ¿Ve más clientes usando sistema tubeless ahora y cómo ha cambiado esto a lo largo de los años y en particular durante el año pasado?
MS: Eventualmente casi todo el mundo quiere una configuración tubeless. No todos los ciclistas principiantes quieren cubrir el costo de los rines y las llantas desde el principio, pero cuando ven que sus amigos más inteligentes y experimentados usan tubeless (¡y no se ponchan!), les da curiosidad y comienzan a hacer preguntas y ahí es donde entramos en escena, explicando los beneficios, cerrando el trato e instalando el sistema. ¿Cómo ha cambiado a lo largo de los años? Bueno, creo que la mayor disponibilidad de producto y las nuevas tecnologías nos han dado las herramientas que necesitamos para darles a los clientes lo que necesitan para sus bicicletas. Stan's NoTubes: How long have you been in business and at your current location?
MS: Close to 11 years now and going stronger than ever!
SNT: How did you wind up in the cycling business?
MS: It actually started out as a hobby, regular exercise, and just awesome good ol´ fun. I've ridden bikes my whole life but it wasn't till my life situation changed that I saw the opportunity to transform my passion for bikes into a booming business.
SNT: How many people do you currently employ?
MS: We got three sales guys up front tending to customers, networks, and phone lines. We got three techs running two separate shops, one logistics person for all the stuff we have to ship out, and one bean counter (the accountant, sorry, we really appreciate that lady).
SNT: Please tell us more about your business, what segments of the market do focus on the most: road, mountain, urban, other?
MS: We really started out 100% focused on MTB bikes but market demand showed us that it was necessary to include road bikes, urban bikes, and all sorts of other kinds of bikes in our business structure. As one of the lead shops in our city, we have to be able to cater to everyone!
SNT: How long have you been offering Stan’s wheels and products at your shop?
MS: In essence, ever since the start. The NoTubes sealant has been an essential product from the get-go for our tubeless setups and for anyone who didn't like getting flats and, literally, we don't know anyone who enjoys getting flats or that likes stopping in the middle of nowhere to change out a punctured inner tube. We incorporated Stans rims, wheels, tapes, valves, injectors, and many more items later on as our shop grew.
SNT: What makes your shop stand out?
MS: We are totally kick-ass dudes, and we like beers and bikes and all bike-related stuff. THAT and friendly customer service with a smile, heaps and heaps of awesome bike parts and accessories, highly customized service, knowledgeable staff, highly trained techs, and we are actually the only certified Fox Racing Shox service center in northern Mexico so that gets us a lot of attention from MTB cyclists and even other shops nationwide that seek pro service for their high-end rigs. The Stans brand goes hand in hand with other high-end brands we handle day in and day out.
SNT: Are eBikes popular in your area?
MS: Like crazy. We didn't see it coming. It's been a huge surge. I wish that I had invested more on ebikes. That said, I think the technology is still in its early stages and there's still much improvement to be made by the big-name brands (we shall mention no names!).
SNT: What kind of riding or type of bike is the most popular in your area?
MS: We live in a place that's nicknamed "the city of mountains". ´nuff said!
SNT: Have you seen an increase in sales in your area during the COVID-19 global pandemic?
MS: Big time. Our brick and mortar shop and online business exploded by more than 100% or even more so. We just cannot get our hands on enough product fast enough.
SNT: What Stan’s wheels are most popular in your area and why?
MS: MTB wheelsets mostly like the ZTR MK3 Crest, the Arch and Flow models (both MK3 and EX3). We also offer the complete line of Stan's rims and wheels that our national importer (Actipromex/Xichu) facilitates to us.
SNT: Are you seeing more customers using tubeless systems now, and how has this changed over the years and over this past year in particular?
MS: Pretty much everyone wants a tubeless setup eventually. Not all beginner cyclists embrace the cost of the rims and tires from the start but when they see their more savvy and experienced buddies using tubeless (and not getting flats!) they get Stan's-curious and start asking questions and that's where we come in to explain the benefits and seal the deal and get them rolling tubeless. How has it changed over the years? Well, I think that the increased availability of product and new technologies has given us the tools we need to give the customers what they need for their bikes. In the last year though, it's just been a crazy increase in demand for the existing product.
