STAN’S NOTUBES INTRODUCES FLOW AND BARON CB7 RIMS AND WHEELSETS

Stan’s NoTubes is proud to introduce the new Flow CB7 and Baron CB7 carbon rims and wheelsets, featuring an entirely new asymmetric version of Stan’s patented Bead Socket Technology (BST) tubeless rim design developed in partnership with Ibis Cycles. Asymmetric rims with offset drilling allow for more balanced spoke tension and a stronger overall wheel, but until now, no asymmetric rim has been able to match the light weight, easy tubeless tire installation and inflation and reliable airtight seal of a genuine Stan’s BST tubeless rim. The new Flow CB7 and Baron CB7 combine the benefits of an asymmetric rim with the low weight, reliability and ride quality that have made Stan’s the leader in tubeless rim design. An Entirely New Kind of Tubeless Rim: Developing Asymmetric BST Why has it been so difficult to build an asymmetric rim that performs well tubeless? The shape of a well engineered tubeless rim is designed to guide a tire’s beads up and out of the center of the rim to the sides as smoothly and efficiently as possible for easy inflation. Drilling off-center spoke holes into one of the slopes that the tire bead slides up during inflation interferes with a tire bead’s transition, making rim tape placement and proper sealing more difficult. By taking advantage of the added width of rims like the Flow CB7 (29mm internal width) and Baron CB7 (35mm internal width) and carefully studying tire behavior during inflation, rim shape and spoke hole location were optimized to work together, making inflation easier. Another practical challenge to designing an asymmetric tubeless rim is the need to synchronize the motion of the tire beads during inflation, so that both snap into place at the same time to create a reliable tubeless seal, even if one side of the tire has to travel further than the other. Working together, Stan’s and Ibis did extensive testing and refining until the final rim shape was perfected. Tire installation, inflation and removal are now as quick and easy on asymmetric BST rims as they are on Stan’s conventional symmetric rims.  Once a tire is inflated, a great tubeless asymmetric rim has to be completely reliable and provide outstanding control, especially in corners. The difference in the shape of the two sides of an asymmetric rim makes achieving consistent bead retention and impact strength on both sides more challenging, but after several design iterations, Stan’s was able to develop an asymmetric rim shape that not only maintains equally reliable seals when subject to off camber situations and the most aggressive cornering, but also withstands impacts equally on both sides. Having consistently reliable seals and impact strength on both sides of the rim mean that there is no “weak side” of the asymmetric design, drastically improving overall wheel performance and rider confidence. Flow CB7 The Flow CB7 is a lightweight carbon trail rim featuring a new asymmetric version of Stan’s proven Bead Socket Technology rim shape. Because some trails ask more of wheels than others, and all Flow rims have a reputation to uphold, the new carbon Flow CB7 relies on an added lay-up process to increase strength while keeping weight to only 420g for the 27.5” rim and 455g for the 29” model. The 29mm inner width of the Flow CB7 is optimized for 2.35” to 2.6” tires.  Like all Stan’s carbon rims, the shape and layup of the Flow CB7 are rooted in radial impact absorbing carbon technology (RiACT), engineered to absorb vibrations, resist pinch flats and withstand impacts while maintaining lateral stiffness for improved control. The new asymmetric shape’s offset drilling improves spoke bracing angle, further increasing the Flow CB7’s lateral stiffness and overall strength. Stan’s low-profile Bead Socket Technology provides the easiest inflation and most reliable tubeless seal of any rim, while helping reduce weight at the edge of the rim for quicker acceleration. The first carbon Flow rim, featuring the added strength of an asymmetric design, soaks up trail vibrations, takes a punch better than the competition and out accelerates everything in its class. The new carbon Flow CB7 is an instant and noticeable upgrade to every trail bike.

Baron CB7 The Baron CB7 incorporates the same new asymmetric Bead Socket Technology as the Flow CB7 for added strength and lower weight, but its 35mm internal width makes it an ideal choice for even wider tires. Despite being 6mm wider than the Flow CB7, the new Baron CB7 shares the exact same incredibly low weight (only 420g for the 27.5” model and 455g for the 29” model). How? Unlike the Flow CB7, which is optimized for tires as narrow as 2.35”, the increased air volume of 2.5” and similar larger tires offer more protection for the rim, allowing the weight of the Baron CB7 to be kept as low as possible.

The Baron CB7’s extremely light and strong rim also incorporates Stan’s RiACT technology to absorb impacts and vibrations for improved durability, speed and control. The 41mm external width of the Baron CB7s takes full advantage of the offset spoke drilling of Stan’s asymmetric Bead Socket Technology, allowing the spokes to approach the rim at an angle that gives better support for the wider rim. Like all Stan’s BST rims, tubeless tire installation and inflation are fast and easy, and the airtight seal allows reliable tubeless performance even at low air pressures. A result of many hours of testing and refinement, the new Baron CB7 combines the strength and stability of an asymmetric rim with the easiest inflation and most trusted tubeless rim design. Wheelsets The Flow CB7 and Baron CB7 carbon wheelsets are lighter and stronger than most competitors, but it’s the details that make these great wheelsets. Based on principles of simplicity, durability and serviceability, the wheels are built in Stan’s New York headquarters with replacement parts readily available directly from notubes.com and many local dealers. The Flow CB7 and Baron CB7 wheels include Stan’s newest Neo hub with Durasync 6-pawl freehub for quick 10-degree engagement and triple freehub bearings that better distribute axle load. Neo hubs shells are 100% CNC-machined for precision and roll on low-friction centerless ground axles for long life and reliable performance. Combined with mechanically locking Secure Lock nipples, Sapim spokes allow for a light but strong wheel. Like all Stan’s wheels, the Flow CB7 and Baron CB7 rely on conventional J-bend spokes, which are easy to replace at almost any shop. The wheelsets are available in both 27.5” and 29” sizes to fit every common axle style and weigh 1,674g and 1,761g, respectively. Flow and Baron CB7 wheels will be available with custom decal color options and multiple build configurations as a part of Stan’s Custom Wheel Builder at notubes.com/custom-wheelset. Warranty and Availability Stan’s NoTubes is proud to announce a new seven-year warranty and lifetime crash replacement on all carbon rims registered by the original owner. This new extended seven-year warranty applies to all Stan’s carbon rims, including new rims as well as those previously registered. Owners who register their carbon rims are also eligible for Stan’s lifetime no-fault crash replacement offer.  Baron CB7 rims and wheelsets are available now. Flow CB7 rims and wheelsets will be available in November.
